Branches of Colour
This is one of my earlier pieces, and in many ways it sits apart from the work I make now.
There is something deliberately playful and experimental in it — a meeting of bold colour, loose mark-making, pattern and imagined botanical forms.
Looking back at this piece, I can see the beginnings of ideas that continue to interest me: the contrast between organic and geometric shapes, the tension between flat areas of colour and intricate drawn lines.
It feels like a glimpse into an earlier visual language — less resolved perhaps, but full of curiosity and instinct. I like keeping these pieces alongside my newer work because they show the evolution of the practice, and the threads that have remained constant even as my style has changed.
An earlier work, but an important part of the journey. Hope you like it.
